Iberoamerican Theater Festival 2014

Theater plays for kids at FITB has been since 1988, the year in which the Iberoamerican Theater Festival began in Bogotá. From the beginning the Festival has educated thousands of viewers from childhood to admire and enjoy the performing arts.

Therefore in this 14th version, there is a strong emphasis on children's and family performances.

Do't forget that our Colombian culture is family oriented, and specially friendly with the children. Little ones are always welcome!

It is not surprising the high percentage of plays and shows dedicated to family and children at this Festival, and the diversity of genres as we will have marionettes, puppets, children's musicals, acrobatics and many more for the youngest ones.

Marionettes

Marionettes or "String Puppets" are characters suspended and controlled by a number of strings. This form of puppetry is complex and sophisticated to operate requiring a great manipulative control.

 There is a variety of stories at this Festival for the marionettes shows:

Some are taken from traditional and universal children stories: like The Hen that lays Golden Eggs from Aesop's fables.

Others are special creations based on Colombian legends or myths: like Güepaje which roots are based on the oral tradition of the Colombian Caribbean region and the European legend "The magic Violin" that invites children to have a fantastic adventure among mangroves, an ogre, a cute elf, a castle, trained alligators and more all to the rythm of a happy and cheerful music.

If you are going to be in Bogota from April 4th to 20th with your children, you will really enjoy shows full of joy, fun, adventure and music at theaters, parks, city squares and avenues. We recommend to check the program and buy tickets in advance.
